Closing Argument: SVU's Raw

By Christy Rach

An impressive episode to say the least. Just when you think you have it figured out, a new twist is thrown in, changing everything. Marcia Gay Harden's performance as an undercover FBI agent, posing as a "white supremacist" was outstanding. This was definitely a thought provoking and deeply emotional episode- something that hits close to home for everyone. We all know racism is out there, but it made me wonder "how many people do I know, who are closet racists"? I was appalled when it was revealed the family of a beautiful young African-American boy, had their adopted son murdered for $750,000.00. A precious life, taken away for the almighty dollar. It happens. Sadly enough, it's an every day occurrence. Lives are lost, people are injured, and ignorance remains. People of all races and color were injured and murdered due to the ignorance of those who cannot "think outside of the box". Children, a judge, officers, the innocent as well as the guilty paid the price of ignorance. Sad. One note of interest to those who are hoping to see "Elliot and Olivia" together- Kathy served Elliot with divorce papers. Where will it go from there? I guess we'll have to tune in to find out!

from henrydobbs:

this episode is an example of what's known as shmuck-baiting: the initial subject of the show (i.e. racism) has nothing to do with what the episode's really about(i.e the gratuitous murder-for-insurance twist at the end). Flashy, meaningless story-telling. The mothership has done much better and more meaningful episodes about racism and white power groups.
