Closing Argument: In The Wee Small Hours

By Christy Rach

Simply the best- the only way to describe the performance of the Law and Order: Criminal Intent "Team". In this two hour "movie event", we were exposed to a more personal side of each of the detectives. Old wounds were opened, secrets revealed, and lines were crossed all in vain. When a "not so innocent" Iowa teen disappears, the detectives are lured into the world of cyber-space and "blogs" in order to track down the whereabouts of the missing girl. What they discover is more shocking than anyone could've imagined. Another victim is discovered along with "sexscapades" with a father/son team. The father, being a powerful judge, will stop at nothing to protect his secret, no matter who is hurt in the process. Detective Robert Goren is the hardest hit. His mother is sent into a psychotic breakdown after being interrogated by a private investigator sent by the judge. His credibility questioned in court after a five year old letter his partner, Detective Alexandra Eames, had written questioning his methods, state of mind and clarity, requesting a transfer. All futile attempts to prevent prosecution. The twist no one could see coming. The actual murderer. The devoted mother. Absolutely genius. This was without a doubt, the "Must See" episode of the season.
